The test shows us what you know about Canada. We’ll ask you 20 questions about the rights and responsibilities of Canadians and Canada’s:
history
geography
economy
government
laws
symbols
We base the test questions on the official citizenship study guide: Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship.
Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship is used by newcomers to study for the citizenship test. It also contains information about the history of Canada, how our government works, symbols of Canada and its regions.

Third-party citizenship study guides, tests and questions
The only official study guide for the citizenship test is Discover Canada: The Rights and Responsibilities of Citizenship, available from Citizenship and Immigration Canada at no cost. If you have applied for citizenship and are preparing for the citizenship test, your primary resource should be the official study guide. If you use any other material to prepare for the citizenship test, you do so at your own risk.
You must study the copy of Discover Canada provided to you by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. If you do not have this copy, or have a copy of Discover Canada.
There are very small differences between the print, audio and electronic versions of Discover Canada. However, these differences won’t affect your ability to prepare for the citizenship test.
