More About DS Fake GPS Location

Use this app to emulate locations or hide your true location from other apps and services on your device.
When location emulation is turned on, the app will give other apps and services on your device your faked location.

This app is ideal for developers who make location-aware applications that need to be tested with different locations.

Before you can fake your location with the app, you will be guided through a setup procedure which includes:

1. Enabling developer mode on your device.
2. Selecting DS Fake GPS Location as the mock location app in the developer settings.
3. Granting the app approximate location permission.

The app requires permission to access your location so that it can access all the location providers on your device - specifically Google's location services provider (fused location provider). The app never accesses your true location and uses the permission for the singular purpose of providing Google's Fused Location provider the location information you set in the app.

Question: Does this app hide your location from everyone?

Answer: While most the apps on your device, including Google Maps, will believe your spoofed location is your actual location, there are some exceptions and these exceptions are related to the use of IP addresses and cellular signal triangulation.

Whenever your phone makes a request to a server over the internet, your IP address is sent to the server along with the request. The server can then easily get your approximate location from the IP address. The only way to hide your IP address and its approximate location is to use a virtual private network (VPN).

Your cellular service provider also has the ability to pinpoint your location by triangulating your cellular signal to nearby cell towers. Law enforcement and other government agencies may request access to this type of technology to locate people of interest. The only reliable way to hide your location from this type of technology is to make sure not to carry your phone. Turning your phone off or pulling out the battery might not work.
