Tulip is a common name given to bulbous, perennial herbaceous plant species grown as an ornamental plant with its beautiful flowers that make up the Tulipa genus from the lily family.
It is believed that its homeland is the Pamir, Hindu Kush, and God mountains. Turks carried the bulbs of this plant with them to Anatolia during their migration. The tulip, which went to Europe from Anatolia in the 1500s, became a very respected and admired flower, especially in the Netherlands. There is a membranous cover on the onions. It has 2-8 leaves, fleshy and green. The flowers are mostly one, sometimes two, at the ends of the stems. They have red, yellow, and intermediate tones.
The tulips, which were sent to the King of the Netherlands by Suleiman the Magnificent in the 16th century, impressed the Dutch at first and all Europeans in a short time. Thus, the Netherlands has been the country that produces the most tulips in the world until today.
Tulip has caused a special interest, especially in Eastern cultures and mythologies. In addition to its frequent use in literary works and diverse stories are told about the emergence of the tulip in mythologies. The most famous of these, and especially the most frequently used in eastern literature, is the myth of the origin of the tulip in Persian mythology. According to this legend, lightning struck a dew grain on the leaf so that the dew grain and the leaf caught fire. Then they freeze, and tulips appear. Based on this story, it was concluded that the darkness in the middle of the tulip flower is the result of this burning process.
